The Professional Quality Difference
C O N T A C T U S
- Is surface of the curb completely finished from front to back?
Why? The finish repels water. Unfinished concrete absorbs water, which will weaken it.
- Are the control joints cut right, spaced evenly, and where they need to be?
Why? Control joints should be cut deep, but not all the way through. This allows shifting, and in certain areas, proper water drainage? Normal placement of control joints is every 4 feet , with a few exceptions. One being areas with tight turns . It is recommended to go with a 2 foot spacing in these areas.
- Is the curb installed at the right height?
Why? If it is too high, extra soil may be needed to be brought in , to accommodate curb . Not to mention the trip hazard it presents when near a walkway . If it is too low, your lawn will eventually overgrow the curb , rendering it useless. Pooling of water next to the curb, is usually an indication of a curb that was installed too low.
- Did the curb design get laid out right?
Why? The size of the area is an important consideration when laying out the curb. Smaller
areas tend to look cleaner with straight lines . While as larger areas look better with large, sweeping curves, creating focal points , accenting trees and shrubs. It is recommended to come off existing edging from a 90 degree angle. Anything else will create a sliver (think of a pie) of curb, that will break off soon after being installed. Avoid creating areas which might be hard to mow , and always leave room for future plant growth.
